Humans of Altus - Sofia Kitsis

Welcome back to our Humans of Altus Series! Last time we sat down with new hire Nilakshan Ranganathan and got to know about his role at Altus and what he enjoys about working here. Since our team is rapidly expanding to keep up with our growing client list of incredible nonprofit and public sector organizations, this series will be consistently updated.

Another one of our recent hires (of only one month!) is Sofia Kitsis, an Application Consultant. We discussed how Altus has made an impression on her in such a short time frame, and what she enjoys most about the work she’s doing. Read on to see what she had to say:

Welcome to Altus, Sofia! What was it that made you choose to work here?

What made me decide to join the Altus team is the project based work, new challenges, and endless opportunities to learn new things. Because Altus is a small company that is in constant growth, I’m able to take on many different projects that continuously stimulate and interest me. Also, because our team and organization is currently changing, it creates new challenges that keep my job interesting. By facing these challenges, I am forced to work outside of my comfort zone and I am able to learn new skills.

Something else I really enjoy about Altus is working with nonprofits. I have a hobby of helping people, so being able to work exclusively with organizations that help society be a better place is something I find extremely fulfilling.

What type of skills do you bring to the company?

I received my Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Management at The Open University of Israel and went on to become a Certified General Accountant (CGA) beginning in 2009 and graduating in 2012. I have an extensive accounting background, which has given me the ability to work well in fast-pace environments. Another skill I bring to Altus is my ability to problem-solve. I love working with different issues that test and improve how I look at potential solutions to problems. Lastly, as I mentioned before, I have a bit of a hobby of helping people. It is something I really enjoy doing and something I feel I am very good at, and I believe that comes through in the work that I do.

What are you most looking forward to having accomplished one year from now?

I already feel like I am part of the Altus team, but seeing as I am still very new, I’m really looking forward to achieving a feeling that I am a highly-valuable team member. Because Altus is a smaller company, I really like being able to get to know the people I’m working with, and can get a real sense of satisfaction knowing that I contributed to a project from implementation through to completion in the best professional manner.

What has been your favourite part of working here so far?

Definitely the people. Everyone who works here is extremely talented and hard working. In the short time I have been here I’ve gotten to know so many friendly and incredible people and it really makes working for Altus that much better.

I also have really enjoyed developing my skills even further through the endless opportunities Altus has presented me with.

What do you most enjoy doing with your time when you're not at work?

When I’m not working I really just like to spend time with my friends and family. I also love to read but I have no time for it! I have a whole list of books I want to read, but unfortunately I just haven’t had a chance to get to it yet. The way I would tackle my reading list would be that I would start with classic novels, then science fiction, then history, and finally psychology.
