Humans of Altus - Cait Abernethy

Posted by Nikki Trinnear on Jun 22, 2016 1:53:18 PM

Last time on Humans of Altus we learned more about the motivated and hard working Dean Carrotte. This time around I'm sitting down with someone who has also held a few Humans of Altus interviews herself - Cait Abernethy, our talented Marketing Coordinator. She's used to asking the questions, so let's see what we can learn by turning the tables. Read on to see what Cait had to say about her role at Altus, her passion for travel, and most importantly, her cat, Nibs.

What motivated you to join the team at Altus?

The reason I decided to join the team at Altus was that the Marketing Coordinator role, in my opinion, was perfectly balanced. It balanced the opportunity to be creative, in terms of design and copywriting, and also strategic, in terms of finding the best way to make sure that the people who would really benefit from our solutions were able to find us and learn about what we have to offer. As well, the role was balanced between playing to the skills and experience I had gained from previous roles, while also giving me the opportunity to learn and try new things under the mentorship of Melissa, our Director of Marketing.

I also was really drawn to the work hard, play hard mentality of the office culture in general. Everyone shows up every morning ready to bring their A game and advance the company, but we also make time for fun corporate culture activities that have now turned my colleagues into friends.

When did you know working at Altus was the best decision for you?

By the end of my first week at Altus I knew I had made the right decision. Everyone in the organization welcomed me in with open arms and made me feel like I was an asset right from the get-go. I appreciated that I was given important tasks and responsibilities right away, but also that the rest of the team reached out to make themselves available to help me in any way possible as I got acclimatized to my new role.

What has been your favourite thing about working at Altus so far?

My favourite moment at Altus so far has been delivering the Altus Alliance conference back in February. I had only been with Altus for a month before the conference happened, so it was fun to be thrown right into the mix of planning and executing the event. It was a whirlwind, but we delivered a really fantastic conference for our customers that was not only educational, but also fun - photobooths, rooftop cocktail parties, and ping pong – what more could you want?! As well, it was really great to be able to meet all of our customers face to face right at the start of my time with the company. These are the people that we at Altus work so hard for by creating solutions that make their lives easier, so to meet them and hear their stories was really motivating and inspirational.

What do you most enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work my biggest passion is travel, so usually I am reading travel blogs or planning my next trip. I’m heading back to England and the Netherlands in August, so planning that trip is currently taking up a bunch of my time! I have also recently got back into kickboxing and am playing on a number of recreational sports teams this summer with my friends. Other than that, I really enjoy cooking or just hanging out at home with my cat, Nibs.
