Welcome back to our “Find a Funder” blog series.
For this installment of the series, we are profiling a foundation started by a leading food and beverages company to support their local communities in the United States: The Coca-Cola Foundation.
Since its inception in 1984, The Coca-Cola Foundation has given back more than $650 million dollars to local communities. Now a global philanthropic organization, in 2013 alone, the Foundation awarded $98 million to impact approximately 134 million people in 122 countries.
The Coca-Cola Company is committed to donating 1 percent of its previous year’s earning annually, which is then distributed through the Foundation. Initially, the organization focused its efforts on learning inside and outside of the classroom, but has now grown to support a wide variety of initiatives.
In regards to their priority funding areas, The Coca-Cola Foundation focuses its grant giving efforts on organizations involved with:
- Women: economic empowerment and entrepreneurship
- Water: access to clean water, conversation efforts, and recycling
- Well-Being: active & healthy living, education and youth development
