Founded in 1850, American Express opened its first Canadian branches within the first few yeards of their inception. Since then they have become a leader in charge and credit cards, travelers cheques, travel, financial planning, investment products, insurance, accounting, and international banking.

The company's objective is to bring to life the American Express value of good corporate citizenship by supporting diverse communities in ways that enhance their reputation with employees, customers, merchants, business partners, and other stakeholders.

American Express strives to meet their mission by supporting nonprofit organizations that are:

  • Preserving and enriching our diverse cultural heritage e.g. From 2008 - 2011 they were a Signature Partner of the Contemporary Collection Program at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO)
  • Developing new leaders for tomorrow
  • Encouraging community service where their employees and customers live and work e.g. Since  1984, American Express has been supporting the Toronto Children's Breakfast Club (TCBC)
